Secondary School Weekly Bulletin

Secondary School Weekly Bulletin | September 23, 2022

A week of beautiful weather and the smell of osmanthus signals the autumn and a settled learning focused atmosphere in school. Grade 10 are well underway with their Personal Projects; a big thank you to Jade Bennett for leading this programme and, under the stewardship of Angela Fox, Grade 12 are moving towards completing the first draft of their Extended Essays which is a huge moment for them and signals the beginning of the end of this challenging aspect of the Diploma programme. For Middle School students, they are getting into a rhythm with their schedules and assignments. For many, the first assessments are coming up as we approach the break.

Although we were not able to host a back to school afternoon as we had hoped, the Secondary team will deliver a series of presentations to parents this semester in our Secondary Presents programme. The schedule is below. All of the presentations are on a Thursday morning at 8:15 in the Centre Large Group Room and we hope that as many parents as possible will join us to find out more about the different programmes that we have developed to enrich the learning of our students.

Finally a reminder that only students in Grades 10 and above are permitted to arrive at school on an electric scooter or motorbike. All students, whether on scooters or using bicycles, must wear a helmet to bring their transport onto our campus. Thanks you for supporting this requirement which is designed for the sole purpose of keeping our students safe.

The registrations are now open and will close at 12pm (noon) on Thursday, 29 September (one week from now). If you would like to take the PSAT, please follow the instructions below:

1. Please send an email expressing your intention to sit the test to Dr Iryna Shuvalova, NIS University Counsellor and PSAT Coordinator at irynashuvalova@nanjing-school.com. Please note that we can accommodate a maximum of 25 test-takers. Spots will be allocated on a first-come-first-serve basis.

2. Students should pay RMB 150 to take the PSAT. For your convenience, this fee is now payable through a WeChat app. For payment instructions, please refer to Ms Iryna's email from 22 September sent to all the GG9-11 students and parents. The deadline to pay your fee is by end of the day (5pm) on Thursday, 29 September.

3. Take your exam on 12 October. Test details and guidelines for the test day will be sent out on Friday, 30 September, before the National Holiday week.

PSAT test is considered to be excellent preparation for the SAT test, as its contents and structure are very similar to the SAT. To learn more about PSAT, please visit the CollegeBoard website. For more detailed information for parents and guardians, please read here.
