Confidence. Competition. Personal Excellence.
Every day at the NIS pools it is our goal to inspire, teach, and coach our students, athletes and community members to enjoy the sport of swimming and to develop a lifelong passion for all the aquatics activities they choose to engage with.
Within curricular programmes, our primary goal is the development of lifetime skills in water confidence and competence.
Learning to swim for all ages is important for water safety and can save lives. A robust curricular swim programme at a school provides students with essential skills and confidence in the water. Internationally-recognised survival and stroke improvement programmes are facilitated in a safe and supportive manner. Learning is promoted through engaged individual or small group activity that is both challenging and fun for all.
These essential life skills can also ignite a lifelong passion. At NIS, we go beyond teaching swimming and cultivate a love for aquatic activities. We emphasize inclusive competition, creating an environment where every individual can participate and excel, regardless of their level. This approach not only fosters a lifelong love for water sports but also instills values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth in our learners.
Beyond Curricular
Competitive
Competitive swimming is an important part of the NIS Athletic programme. Within age and ability squads, students learn and develop performance and team membership skills within an aquatic arena. Opportunities to compete against other international school swim teams are provided throughout the year through our membership of the prestigious Shanghai Swim League (SSL) and ACAMIS athletic conference.
Community
The development of healthy lifestyle practices is an important feature of our NIS community programmes. Weekly pool use schedules provide a daily opportunity for community members of all ages to remain active in the pool. Current scheduling provides popular lap and leisure swimming sessions for individuals or families. Qualified lifeguards are in constant attendance during these times.
Athletics
Nanjing International School offers students at all grade levels opportunities to participate in 10 different inclusive, competitive sports.
The Arts
The inclusive Arts curriculum at NIS allows for both responses to and the creation of artwork, whether musical or dramatic.
Student Activities
Our Primary School offers diverse activities, including culture, crafts, performing arts, and sports for Grades 1-5. In Secondary School, students engage in clubs, performing arts, and service to develop skills, interests, and leadership opportunities.
