Our Primary Years Programme for Grade 1-5 unlocks the potential of our young students. Through this personalised, child-centric programme of inquiry, they develop into caring, active participants on a lifelong journey of learning.
Our Programme
The International Baccaluareate Primary Years Programme (PYP) focuses on whole-child development, with students in the role of the inquirer both in school and beyond the classroom. The programme offers a transformative experience for students, teachers, and the entire community, delivering excellent outcomes by providing an engaging, relevant, challenging, and significant education.
Our PYP learners take ownership of their learning with Student Voice and Student Choice. They collaborate with teachers to deepen their understanding, increase their confidence, and boost and self-motivation. By actively engaging in integrated, ongoing assessment, students become effective, self-regulated learners who can act on constructive feedback.
The Primary Years Programme curriculum is based on the premise that students are agents of their own learning and partners in the learning process.
At NIS, the PYP prioritises people and their relationships to Burst the Bubble and build a strong and inclusive learning community. PYP students, especially in Grade 1-5, use their voice and choice to take initiative, responsibility, and ownership of their learning. By learning through inquiry and reflecting on their own learning, our students develop the knowledge, conceptual understanding, skills, and the attributes of the IB Learner profile to make a difference in their own lives, their communities, and beyond.
The PYP Exhibition
At NIS, the PYP Exhibition aligns with and truly embodies student voice and student choice, an essential component of our school Strategy.
The exhibition, which is shared with proud parents and peers, requires 5th graders to inquire into a particular interest, carry out research, and manage the project independently. It is their introduction to higher level learning and the IB Middle Years Programme. The exhibition also requires students to pursue personal excellence while developing and displaying resilience as they tackle their projects independently and collaborate in groups. Within this framework, our students choose the topic they wish to inquire into and how they are going to present their learning at the exhibition.
