English Language Support

Our English Language Learning (ELL) programmes are designed to ensure equitable access and opportunities for English learners. ELL teachers engage in regular conferences and collaborations with teachers to address students' needs and develop strategies for meeting expectations, all informed by data collected using the World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment (WIDA).

Primary

Ou ELL team consists of specialists dedicated to providing targeted support for English language learners throughout the school. In the Primary School, ELL teachers seamlessly integrate into the classroom to support English acquisition within the regular learning environment. They also offer targeted interventions and perform regular diagnostic testing using the WIDA educational consortium model. Additionally, our Primary School ELL teachers actively participate in collaborative planning sessions within grade level teaching teams to better incorporate appropriate content into instruction and assessment.

Secondary

In the Secondary School, ELL teachers support students in acquiring English through leveled acquisition classes categorized as "Phases" 1-5, aligning with the IB MYP Programme recommendations. Students operating at Phase 1-4 levels also enroll in an additional English support class titled "English for Academic Purposes" to foster their academic language development instead of taking an additional language course. Following the WIDA model, our Secondary School ELL teachers collaborate with subject-specific colleagues to ensure that English language learners can access the curriculum. At our English-medium school, all lessons, except for other language courses, are conducted in English. Our teachers consider the language needs of all students when delivering their lessons, as we believe that it's the responsibility of every teacher to account for the needs of English Language Learners. While we have language support specialists working with students across the school, the majority of support occurs within mainstream lessons.
