Updates from Primary School

Participating in the world of magic, awe, and wonder is quite uplifting to the human spirit. That’s why the circus can be such an exhilarating and delightful experience. Even more delightful than that is when one gets to actually be a part of such a magical experience, such as “The Circus” production created by our own Primary School! A sincere congratulations to all our students, teachers, and parents for their

roles and support with this year’s Primary School Production of “The Circus!” A special congratulations to our Assistant Director, Ms. Laurel Macmillan, and Director, Ms. Heidi Dean.

This production of “The Circus,” was ready to go on show last year, but was cancelled due to the pandemic. It is quite remarkable and a tribute to our community’s perseverance that the show continued in its latest form for all to enjoy! A boisterous ringmaster led us through an extravaganza of circus acts and songs from all our students in Grades 2-5! The entire show has been in preparation for

over ten weeks, and both Thursday and Friday’s performances highlight the inspirational qualities of our community. What a dazzling display of talent!

Proactive and prepared! The Primary School invites parents to join a virtual meeting Monday February 1st at 9:00 am for information about the school preparations in case we shift to Distance Learning. You can click here to attend the meeting at the designated time.

Staying connected to our community is a vital part of our success story, and so we are happy that we can continue with the 3 Way Conferences taking place next Wednesday February 3rd. For those parents who have not yet scheduled a time yet, please access sign-ups via Veracross by Monday. The conferences offer students, parents, and teachers a time to connect and review the learning from the previous semester, discuss goals for the new semester, and for those new students joining us, it offers a time to become better acquainted.

I have highlighted a few tips for parents to help you and your child be ready for the conference:

1. Be ready to share (The more conversation between students, parents and teachers the better)

    a. Be sure to bring a translator if needed to help make this possible or bring your

thoughts and questions in writing to reference.

2. Let your child and the teacher hear what you value so far about your child’s learning.

3. Recognize strengths and listen to the goals for learning from the student and teacher.

4. Allow time for further deeper conversations if you would like more than 15 minutes.

    a. NIS teachers are available throughout the year to sit and discuss your child’s

learning. If you think you would like more time than is allowed on the conference day, schedule another appointment with your child’s teachers.

5. Continue the conversation at home with your child. Reviewing the conference with your child further grounds the learning conversation with your family.
