NIS Book Week: Exploring a World of Books
NIS Book Week: Exploring a World of Books
Each year, Book Week at Nanjing International School is a 7-day celebration of children's books and reading. This year's Book Week featured a variety of activities and events designed to encourage a love of reading and engage students with literature.
The visit of award-winning guest author Trevor Lai was a special treat for students during Book Week. Mr. Lai visited the school and read to Primary School children from Early Years to Grade 5. His visit was a wonderful opportunity for students to meet a famous author and learn more about the craft of writing and storytelling.
Another highlight of Book Week was the guest reader programme. During the week, guest parents and teachers were invited to read a picture book or a short chapter to a class. Students were thrilled with the experience and our guest readers enjoyed the opportunity to share their love of books with students.
The Panda Book Awards was another popular part of Book Week. This initiative brings together school librarians across China who work daily to introduce kids to the fantastic world of books. Students in international schools in China were invited to vote for their favorite book from a selection of nominated titles. This was a great opportunity for students to engage with a wide range of books and have their voices heard.
Finally, no Book Week would be complete without a book sale, which gave students the opportunity to purchase books to add to their personal libraries. The sale featured a wide selection of books for all ages and interests, and students were excited to browse through the offerings and find new titles to explore.
Overall, Book Week 2023 at Nanjing International School was a huge success. The variety of activities and events provided something for everyone, and students left the week feeling inspired and motivated to read more. Celebrating books and reading at NIS helps to foster a lifelong love of learning and exploration in our students.
