Bots Battle at NIS

The field of robotics and artificial intelligence is a huge growth area in our modern world, as evidenced by the rise of contactless delivery robots and driverless cars in the last few years. Preparing our students for this future, NIS students in Mr. Ken Brady’s Grade 9 Design class have been studying robotics. Using sophisticated sensors and programmable electronics, students have designed and built their own robots capable of autonomous travel and movement to compete in a range of challenges.

Having designed and built their robots from the ground up, our students have learned how to create the code that controls the sensors and motors of their robot, giving it the ability to perform its tasks completely autonomously. The culmination of the robotics class for Grade 9 is the BattleBots competition, where students have drawn on everything they have learned throughout the unit, to build and program a robot to compete in a Robo-Battle challenge.

“Our students have really engaged with the complex concepts involved,” said Mr. Brady. “I looking forward to NIS joining other schools across China next year to compete in International robotics competitions and events.”
