TEDxYouth 2025: Supernova!

TEDxYouth@NIS 2025 illuminated our campus with a dazzling display of ideas that will change the world. This year’s theme, “Supernova,” left attendees inspired by the stellar talks celebrating the 10-year anniversary of this integral community event. What sets TEDx apart is the outstanding student leadership, and this year was no exception as student organisers went above and beyond in their roles.

From the captivating theme to meticulously planned logistics, students shaped every aspect of the event, learning diverse skills in the process. They designed badges, welcomed attendees, and facilitated engaging networking sessions, as well as the mental agility and ability to pivot that is integral in all event management.

Student organisers highlighted key aspects of the experience. Mayah commented that, "It was exciting to see how everything was put together, from deciding the theme to making the set design for the stage.”

Joyce emphasised the collaborative spirit: "We were able to compromise and complete designs by addressing the wants of all members of the team.” Agatha added, "The magnitude of high moments and positives outshone any lows. The brilliant group of teachers and students I was working alongside countered any challenges along the way with creative and innovative solutions."

This dedication fostered developing leadership skills, amplifying confidence and agency with each challenge. The result was an unforgettable experience for all, as Emily shared, "The behind-the-scenes work...was truly an amazing experience.” And even when challenges arose, Mina noted, "Although we had some troubles throughout the planning of this event, we overcame them together." As Eason put it, "It was an amazing experience, all of us collaborated and cooperated really well!"

TEDxYouth@NIS 2025 was a testament to student leadership, creativity, and collaboration, leaving a lasting impact on the NIS community. Veteran teacher organisers Jiawen Luo, Ophelie Hau, and Tríona Ryan were joined by Carol Fisher this year to mentor the student organisers and speakers. They are united in their sense of pride in all the speakers, students, sponsors and supporters, whose unwavering dedication makes this event a celebration of courage and community.
