Primary Celebrates International Mindedness with CNY Feast

In a vibrant showcase of cultural immersion and student initiative, Grade 1 and Grade 5 students at NIS marked the lead-up to the Chinese Lunar New Year with a spectacular feast event that they planned and created along with our Mandarin teachers.

As a part of our dynamic Primary Mandarin programme, this celebration was not just a feast for the taste buds but also an enriching educational experience. Students were deeply involved in the preparation process, learning not only about the Chinese Lunar New Year but also the culinary aspects and rich cultural significance of each dish. The New Year-inspired decorations they created were proudly displayed, including calligraphy, lanterns, and paper dragons. The event took place in the Primary School's Hutong, a unique learning space at NIS that fosters an immersive environment for Mandarin studies.

The Primary Lunar New Year Feast is a wonderful example of the “Burst the Bubble” component of our award-winning NIS learning strategy. This approach encourages students to step beyond their comfort zones and immerse themselves in new experiences. NIS students gain a deeper understanding of the world around them through events like this and develop a greater appreciation for cultural diversity.
