NIS Welcomes the Year of the Snake
NIS celebrated the Year of the Snake with assemblies and activities rich in tradition, creativity, and community spirit! From Pre-K to Grade 12, Chinese Lunar New Year unites our school in festivities and deepens the connection to our host country.
The event began in our courtyard with greetings, hongbao for children, and spectacular Dragon and Lion dance performed by our Secondary and Primary students. This was followed by our Chinese drumming team welcoming community members to attend special assemblies for Primary and Secondary school, where student performances shined and delighted audiences of parents, peers, and faculty. The extravaganza included festive Chinese instrument band music, song, dance, skits, poetry, and even a mesmerizing face-changing (Bianlian) show.
Beyond the stage, Primary students engaged in cultural workshops, creating snake figurines, practicing calligraphy, and enjoying festive treats like tanghulu and dumplings. A shadow puppet theatre provided a glimpse into ancient storytelling traditions, adding to the immersive experience. Our HUB was decorated with Lunar New Year-themed student artwork created during their Mandarin language classes during the week leading up to the festivities.
For NIS, the Year of the Snake was more than a celebration – it was a wonderful expression of international-mindedness and cultural appreciation from our inclusive learning community and a joyful start to the new year. Happy New Year! 新年快乐!
