NIS Teams Win 2 Vex Robotics Trophies in Shanghai

Nanjing International School took 19 students from four of our Robotics Teams to the ACAMIS Regional Robotics Finals at Shanghai Concordia. Students competed against 37 other teams from across China. All our NIS teams made it to the playoffs after 12 gruelling rounds, where everything was on the line as they battled it out on the final afternoon of competition.

“While NIS Team ‘84236B – Checkmate’ made it through to the Quarter Finals, going down to the eventual tournament winners from Shanghai American School Puxi, it was a very successful tournament for NIS,” said Mr. Ken Brady, Secondary Design Teacher at NIS. “Team ‘84236C – Alpha Nobot’ taking home the Innovate Award and Team ‘84236A – Teseala’ achieving the coveted Judges award.”

These two teams have been invited to participate in the ACAMIS National Finals in Guangzhou where they will be competing for a World Seed position to attend the World Finals in Dallas Texas in May.

“The success of all our teams at the event highlighted the strengths of the student-centred approach to learning that NIS promotes through its Robotics programme,” said Mr. Brady.

Robotics is an exciting part of our extensive IB Design programme at NIS. Secondary students ideate, build, code, and pilot their own robots. By participating in these competitions, students are encouraged to pursue personal excellence, think creatively, and collaborate with their teams.
