NIS Robotics Teams Compete in ACAMIS National Finals
NIS Robotics travelled to Guangzhou over the weekend, fielding 18 students in 4 teams in the ACAMIS National Robotics Championships.
Competing in the VEX V5 event against 42 top teams from across China, NIS Team 84236D reached a high of 7th overall during the qualifying rounds. After 2 days of qualifying, two NIS teams, 84236C and 84236D, made it to the Finals on the last day.
In the fiercely fought Finals rounds, NIS Team 84236C faced the current World Champions, Team 2053X. In an alliance with a team from UISG, NIS scored an impressive victory in their opening Autonomous stage but succumbed to relentless attacks from 2053X and their allies in the Driver stage. NIS Team 84236D and their allies from ISBC also had an extremely close Finals match thanks to some top-quality team driving, only being narrowly defeated by an alliance that managed to snatch their mobile goal away in the final seconds.
“The success that the NIS teams have had during all the 2024-25 season events has resulted from their dedication, teamwork, and creative thinking,” said Mr. Ken Brady, NIS Tech Coach and Robotics Teacher. “They have worked tirelessly in the Design Centre after school to perfect their engineering design, fine-tune their coding and practice their team strategy, preparing them to take on China’s top teams.”
After defeating NIS Team 84236C, Team 2053X won the Championship and will move on to the World Championships in Dallas, Texas, where they will seek to defend their title. After a great tournament and knowing they can now hold their own at this level of competition, the NIS Robotics team has their eyes set on the coming 2025-26 season.
