NIS Wins Judges Award at National Robotics Championships

The NIS Robotics Team travelled to Guangzhou over the weekend, fielding both a Girls and Boys team in the ACAMIS National Robotics Championships.

Competing against 58 teams from 14 schools, the Girls reached a high of 5th overall during the qualifying rounds, with the boys finishing a very respectable 10th. After qualifying rounds, both Girls and Boys teams made it to the Finals on the last day.

In a fiercely fought Finals round, both teams scored impressive victories in Autonomous but suffered heavy casualties in the Driver rounds and were eliminated. Based on the quality performance of their robot throughout the competition, however, the girls received the coveted Judges Award for their robot.

“The success that the teams had at the ACAMIS National Robotics tournament was a result of their dedication, teamwork, and creative thinking,” said Mr. Ken Brady, NIS Tech Coach and Design Teacher. “Working tirelessly in the Design Centre after school to perfect their engineering design and fine-tune their coding, the students bonded into a tight-knit team which helped them shine during the competition.”

Sparked on by coming so close to an overall tournament victory, the NIS Robotics team now has their eyes set on qualifying for the VEX World Championships next year.
