NIS Joins First Yangtze River Youth Expedition

NIS joined the first Yangtze River Youth Expedition, bringing together parents and students from Grades 3–7 for a day of culture, creativity, and discovery.

One of the highlights was the chance to learn alongside students from Nanjing Normal University Affiliated High School Yanzijicheng School, Primary Division (Binjiang Campus) and take part in hands-on activities inspired by the Yangtze River and Nanjing’s cultural heritage. Students could choose from three different art experiences: lacquer art (漆艺), using flowing colours to create river-like patterns; Yanziji sunset painting, with bold splashes of colour inspired by the famous riverside sunset; and gold-leaf art, carefully adding shimmering details to capture the light dancing across the Yangtze.

The adventure then continued on board the Yangtze Legend, where families enjoyed a cruise along the river and passed landmarks including the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge. Students kept their eyes on the water, hoping to spot one of the Yangtze’s famous finless porpoises, while learning more about the river’s unique environment. They also met Mr. Jiang Meng, Executive Vice President and Secretary-General of the Nanjing Finless Porpoise Aquatic Life Conservation Association, who spoke about efforts to protect this remarkable species.

It was a wonderful example of Bursting the Bubble in action – getting out into our local community, learning alongside others, trying something new and developing a deeper connection with the culture and environment right on our doorstep.

The Annual General Meeting: A Promise to Our Parents

As Nanjing’s only independent, non-profit international school, we believe transparency is an important responsibility to our families. Every resource we have is directed towards our students and their learning. Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) helps parents see how that commitment is put into practice and have a voice in our school’s future.
