Introduction
Paul, the Class of 2021 Valedictorian, has been on an exciting journey since his graduation from NIS. After studying Public Policy, International Relations, and Economics at the University of Toronto, Paul has taken on a role with the German Chamber of Commerce in Canada. On top of that, he continues to pursue his passion for theatre, recently announcing his fifth production in Toronto.

Background at NIS
Paul started at NIS in Grade 8 and was heavily involved in theatre throughout his time at the school. From Grade 9 to 12, he stage-managed several productions and later had the opportunity to direct. Paul drew inspiration from Drama teachers Mr. Brown and Ms. Philip, whose guidance shaped his understanding of theatre production. He also contributed to NIS’s student life by being involved in Varsity sport and the school newspaper, and held leadership roles in governance and board work.

Academic and Career Journey
After graduating from NIS, Paul pursued his undergraduate studies at the University of Toronto, focusing on Public Policy, International Relations, and Economics. He recently completed his degree and has now started full-time work with the German Chamber of Commerce in Canada. In addition to his career, Paul continues to direct theatre productions in Toronto, including his latest project, Next to Normal.

Connection to NIS Mission
Paul credits NIS with shaping his international mindset and leadership skills. "I love the international community we have at NIS. It taught me how to build strong, supportive networks, and that’s something I’ve carried forward into my personal and professional life. The close-knit nature of the NIS community makes it easy to stay connected and grow that network around the world."

  • Paul continues to maintain strong connections with friends from NIS, staying with them during his travels across Asia.

Grade 1 Navigates Hongshan Zoo

Grade 1 students recently took their learning beyond the classroom with a field trip to the Nanjing Hongshan Zoo as part of their Unit of Inquiry, Where We Are in Place and Time. Throughout the unit, students have been exploring maps, symbols, and ways to record and share new information.

NIS Hosts ACAMIS Volleyball Tournament

The NIS community welcomed 5 international schools to our campus to participate in the ACAMIS Orange Division Volleyball Tournament. These partner schools came from Macau, Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Tianjin, and Beijing, with over 130 student athletes and coaches taking part in the competition.

K2’s IKEA Visit: Inquiry in Action

As part of our ongoing unit of inquiry, “How We Organise Ourselves,” our K2 children visited IKEA to extend their learning through real-world exploration. The visit connected directly to their classroom investigations into organisation, symbols, and design – bringing their IB Primary Years Programme inquiries vividly to life.
