G5 PYPx: From Questions to Action
Our Grade 5 students took centre stage as they launched their much-anticipated PYP Exhibition (PYPX). Over the past ten weeks, each learner pursued an issue of personal interest and global significance, ranging from sustainable fashion and healthy diets to Chinese calligraphy, gaming addiction, the value of dance, and more. As they presented their projects on our Performing Arts Centre, it was clear how deeply they had engaged in every phase of the inquiry cycle: formulating questions, gathering primary and secondary sources, researching, note-taking, summarising, and creating compelling visuals and infographics. Each project linked a student’s passion with one or multiple United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
While visitors admired colourful display boards and hands-on models – like a student’s living “vertical garden” demonstrating green architecture, or another’s drone healthcare delivery prototype – much of the Exhibition’s impact lay in the skills beneath the surface. Self-management was on full display as students organised their time and materials; communication shone through in lively presentations and conversations with parents and community experts; and collaboration was evident in the seamless way peers supported one another throughout setup and presentations.
“This year’s topics truly reflect our students’ diverse passions and their commitment to real-world change,” said Ms. Jacqui Patrick, Primary School Principal. “I was impressed by how confidently they spoke about complex issues and how thoughtfully each project urged us all to take action.”
As a culmination of our IB Primary Years Programme, Grade 5s demonstrated at PYPX not only what they had learned, but who they are becoming: curious, capable changemakers ready to shape a better world.
