NIS Book Week Inspires
Nanjing International School highlighted the importance of a love for reading during our Book Week festivities. Our school transformed to echo this year’s theme “Reading is Magic,” encouraging students to explore the wondrous worlds found within the pages of books.
“Being able to dedicate a week to celebrating reading truly is magical,” said Ms. Angela Romero, PK-12 Librarian. “Reading can open our eyes to new ideas, comfort us when we’re down, and transport us to new locations. Reading is magic!”
Throughout the week, the Performing Arts Centre Foyer was abuzz with the annual Book Fair, where students had the opportunity to immerse themselves in stories, fuel their imaginations, and discover new interests. Guest readers from our community visited classrooms, sharing their favorite tales and inspiring the students with the magic of storytelling. Enhancing the sense of community and the joy of shared reading experiences, Todd Plaster, a renowned storyteller, visited NIS to captivate young audiences with his narrative performances.
The eventful week also included a special day where students were invited to come dressed as their favorite book characters. Children brought their favorite stories to life with characters as diverse as their reading interests. The week concluded with a Book Quiz House Challenge, a friendly and competitive opportunity for students to hone their reading comprehension skills.
Book Week at NIS wasn’t just about the festivities; it was a strategic effort to deepen students' engagement with literature and enhance their literacy skills. By fostering an environment that celebrates reading, NIS continues to inspire a love of reading and learning across our inclusive community.
