The HUB
The HUB will be a centralized space on our campus that elevates and amplifies learning, complementing our aspirations to place student voice and choice at the centre of the things we do at NIS. It will not be a library, nor will it be an internet research facility with technicians to facilitate navigating the web...it will be a place for curation and creation, quiet study and vigorous discussion, with flexible, agile furniture that can facilitate the need at that moment in time. With access to data and information in print, digital and other media types, we look forward to to this "Third Teacher" inspiring our students and connecting their learning across our campus and the world. In the meantime, please take a moment to see in the photos above how our HUB will bring together two important aspects of teaching and learning today - Library/Media and IT services.
Welcome to the NIS Library
Serving the PK-12 student body, faculty and parents, the library is proud to provide a print collection of over 40,000 volumes and a growing eBook collection available to all community members for their personal reading enjoyment. Celebrating the diversity of our community, the library includes books in 12 different languages and hosts a wide range of DVDs and magazines. We are also proud of the databases we use that allow blended learning and research for all ages. Our IB Diploma students in particular have university level resources to draw upon.
We welcome you to explore the various digital resources available through the library websites accessed through the links below, or visit our Library online at the left.
Educational Technology @NIS
The ability to bridge the gaps of time and space, fostering collaboration in heretofore unknown ways, makes digital technology a boon for any educational institution. Interviewing scientists in other countries, exploring other worlds using 3D and building structures in Virtual Reality provide us with some of the most interactive learning adventures without ever needing a stamp or visa in our passport.
However, we strongly believe in balance, and making purposeful use of digital technology in a way that does not consume our ability to function without it. Thus we have a digital philosophy that we adhere to based on 3, fundamental principles:
Respect
Protect
ConnectPlease take a look at our balanced approach to leveraging digital technology's potential at NIS.
