Nanjing International School

Our Campus

Our campus was designed to use traditional Chinese themes on the exterior meshed with modern, state-of-the-art interiors. Our classrooms were designed with teacher input to optimise student centred instruction based around inquiry.

The campus was built in four stages. Stage one included classrooms, a double gym, a large library, specialist facilities for music, art, drama, design and technology, a 400m running track and astroturf football field. Stage two - The Centre opened to the school and its community in May 2010. It is now the main entrance to the school, and houses the school administration as well as recreational facilities including, swimming pools, cafe, fitness room, dance studio, board room and NIS conference room. Stage three saw the building of our impressive Performing Arts Centre featuring a 540 seat theatre, black box theatre and music floor with five practise rooms. Stage 4 saw the building of a second double size gym, the Design Centre, a major cafeteria re-design, a primary Mandarin HuTong and learning support centre.

The campus is stunning. As a school of around 700 students we enjoy the facilities of a school twice our size. Not for profit schools are able to put all the fees into quality education for our students – nobody gains except our learning community.

The swimming pool and fitness room are only available for NIS students, staff and Community Members.

Early Years Centre

A collaborative design project with NoTosh (an education management consultancy), EIW Architects and our entire NIS community, has resulted in a truly unique space for our youngest students to grow, explore, play and learn in tandem.

Swimming Pools

The swimming pools are located on the ground level. There is a 25 metre, 6 lane training pool heated to 29°C and an infants pool heated to 32°C. This allows us to programme swimming lessons all year round for the students. The pools are available to NIS Community Members for lap and leisure swimming.

Blue and Green Gyms

We have two, full-size gymnasiums with the ability to facilitate four, full-court basketball or volleyball games between them.

The Performing Arts Centre

We have a purpose built Performing Arts Centre (The PAC) that incorporates a 600-seat theatre that also serves as an auditorium/ballroom, an agile "Black Box" theatre for smaller productions, music classrooms and self-contained music studio practice rooms. Needless to say, it is a very busy space and one that is a big draw for the NIS and greater Nanjing community, from student productions to TEDx events and more.
