Director's Welcome

On behalf of the Nanjing International School (NIS) community, welcome to our school.

NIS was founded in 1992. We are proud to be the first three-programme International Baccalaureate school in China, and the only PreK to Grade 12 IB World School in Nanjing. All that we do is driven by our inspiring school mission. The four pillars of

inclusion, international-mindedness, personal excellence, and creative thinking

are the foundations for learning at NIS.

A visit to our campus immediately conveys a strong sense of the close-knit, diverse community that we are proud to be. Our strong sense of community is held by students, parents and staff, reflecting over 35 different nationalities.

All of our students have the opportunity to study Mandarin Chinese. Students have a wide range of subjects to pursue, offering authentic and vibrant learning opportunities that extend beyond the classroom, including Discover China, a week of off-campus service learning in various locations throughout China. Due to our high achievement our graduates have access to great universities around the world.

Since launching our Strategy, which focuses on two main goals, Student Voice and Student Choice and Burst the Bubble, we have started redesigning our campus learning spaces. We want students to have a say in their personal learning and we also want to engage with our inspiring host country for learning beyond the boundaries of our campus. In August 2019 we opened our Reggio-inspired Early Years area. We are now building a learning HUB for all ages. Truly inspiring spaces.

NIS is a not-for-profit school which means we value transparency and use all school fees for the sole purpose of benefitting our students.

This is a unique approach within the context of profit driven international schools in Nanjing. We are proud of being an international school in the ancient capital and cultural centre of China. Coming to NIS and living in Nanjing is an opportunity not to be missed.
