Primary Years Programme

At NIS the key focus of learning is the transdisciplinary Programme of Inquiry (POI). This transdisciplinary approach is reinforced by single subject teaching as appropriate. The POI provides students with the knowledge, skills, conceptual understandings and attitudes that enable them to become increasingly effective learners.

Each subject has a Pre-K to G12 curriculum which identifies the Student Learning Outcomes (SLO). A SLO is the level at which the school expects the majority of students will be able to independently use and apply their knowledge and skills by the end of that academic year. Each subject's Scope and Sequence (curriculum) as well as teacher planners and other school documents can be viewed at the schools Atlas Site. You child’s teacher can provide you with the password for this site.

Grade Level Timelines

Assessment

Assessment effectively maps students’ development in the understanding of concepts, the acquisition of knowledge, the mastery of skills, the development of attitudes, and the ability to make decisions to take responsible action. This information is used to adapt teaching and learning to ensure that learners’ specific needs are catered for so that each student can achieve personal excellence.

Students are actively involved in assessing their own learning. Students create their own Student Portfolios to show their parents during Three Way and Student Led Conferences.
