After-School Activities (ASA)
Three 10 week cycles of ASAs are offered over the year for K2 to Grade 12 students. Activities include cultural, craft, performing arts, sports and more. The specific activities offered depend on the interest and expertise of teachers as well as student interest. Information about activities is provided to students before each ASA cycle and to the wider NIS community via the NIS Bulletin.
NIS participates in an extensive range of cultural activities with other International schools and local Chinese schools. These include:
Association of China and Mongolia International
NIS attends a number of cultural events at other International schools in China. These vary year to year but typically include events such as Math Olympiads, Cultural Conventions, Speech and Debate, Kids Read, MUN and Film events. NIS also hosts some ACAMIS events e.g. Kids Read, Speech and Debate and MUN. Go to www.acamis.org for more details about ACAMIS.
Model United Nations (MUN)
NIS is an active participant in MUN events in China. We regularly attend a number of MUN events including, Westlake MUN, CISS MUN and BEI MUN. We also host an ACAMIS Middle School MUN.
NIS Community Activities (NISCA)
Our mission at Nanjing International School is to promote our school as a community resource, with special focus on the Nanjing expatriate community and the local Ya Dong community. As an International school, NIS is well placed to benefit local communities by acting as a bridge between cultures. In this light, NIS seeks to increase the opportunities for local Chinese students and community members in the Ya Dong community to interact with NIS students and families and to use NIS facilities. Local members of the Ya Dong community are encouraged to contact NIS to discuss the possibility of developing joint activities with NIS or for utilizing NIS facilities outside regular school hours.
The NISCA programme offers a range of interesting, educational and enriching activities. Generally these are provided by providers free of charge or on a cost-only basis. Community Activities can be organized by any member of the NIS community and are available for all local community members. Activities currently organized by the NIS community include: Chinese painting, Chinese language, badminton, volleyball, basketball, football, yoga, aerobics, music lessons, ballet, martial arts and zumba. The timing and duration of these activities largely depends on community interest and changes throughout the year. Most of these activities are available to adults.
